Twisha Sharma Death Case: In-Laws Reject Harassment Charges, Claim She Struggled With Drug Use

The death of 31-year-old Twisha Sharma in Bhopal has taken a dramatic turn after her mother-in-law, retired judge Giribala Singh, filed a bail application rejecting allegations of harassment and murder levelled by Twisha’s family.

Twisha Sharma Found Dead in Bhopal Home

Twisha Sharma, originally from Noida, married Samarth Singh in December 2025 after the match was arranged through a matrimonial website. Following the marriage, she moved to Bhopal to live with her husband and his family. On May 12, Twisha was found dead at her marital residence in Bhopal. According to investigators, she was discovered hanging inside the house.

The case drew attention after reports emerged that Twisha had sent distress messages to a close friend shortly before her death, allegedly indicating emotional turmoil and fear.

Her family has since accused her husband and in-laws of harassment, abuse, and murder, while also alleging that the family attempted to influence the investigation because of Giribala Singh’s background as a retired judge.

Bail Plea Claims Drug Addiction and Emotional Distress

In her bail application, Giribala Singh denied all allegations of cruelty and foul play. Instead, she claimed that Twisha had a history of consuming narcotic substances and frequently displayed behavioural changes that worried the family. According to the plea, the family noticed trembling hands, irritability, and sudden mood swings after Twisha moved into the household.

The application further alleged that these symptoms became visible whenever she was unable to access drugs, suggesting withdrawal-related distress. Giribala Singh also claimed that Twisha’s father had allegedly acknowledged her substance use during discussions with the family.

These allegations have not been independently verified by investigators.

Pregnancy Added to Emotional Stress: Bail Application

The defence application also stated that the situation changed significantly after Twisha Sharma discovered she was pregnant during a hospital visit on April 17. According to the plea, Twisha became emotionally distressed after learning about the pregnancy and expressed a desire to leave Bhopal and return to Noida.

The application claimed she told family members she could no longer continue the role of a homemaker. It further stated that she packed her belongings and flew to Delhi the following day. The defence also questioned certain aspects of her movements after landing in Delhi, alleging she did not immediately return home and did not clearly explain the delay.

These details were cited by the defence to suggest that Twisha may have been under emotional strain in the weeks leading up to her death.

Family Alleges Harassment and Foul Play

While the in-laws have presented their version before the court, Twisha’s family has strongly rejected those claims and accused the husband’s family of trying to divert attention from allegations of abuse. Her relatives allege that she faced continuous mental and physical harassment after marriage.

They have claimed she was pressured over employment decisions and also faced stress related to her pregnancy. The family further alleged that injury marks were found on her body and questioned whether evidence may have been tampered with after her death.
